چکیده

In network scheduling a set of jobs must be scheduled on unrelated parallel processors or machines which are connected by a network. Initially, each job is located on some machine in the network and cannot be started on another machine until suucient time elapses to allow the job to be transmitted there. This setting has applications, e. g., in distributed multi-processor computing environments and also in operations research; it can be modeled by a standard parallel machine environment with machine-dependent release dates. We consider the objective of minimizing the total weighted completion time. The main contribution of this paper is a provably good convex quadratic programming relaxation of strongly polynomial size for this problem. Until now, only linear programming relaxations in time-or interval-indexed variables have been studied. Those LP relaxations, however, suuer from a huge number of variables. In particular, the best previously known relaxation is of exponential size and can therefore not be solved exactly in polynomial time. As a result of the convex quadratic programming approach we can give a very simple and easy to analyze randomized 2{approximation algorithm which slightly improves upon the best previously known approximation result. Furthermore, we consider preemptive variants of network scheduling and derive approximation results and results on the power of preemption which improve upon the best previously known results for these settings.

A Recurrent Neural Network for Solving Strictly Convex Quadratic Programming Problems

In this paper we present an improved neural network to solve strictly convex quadratic programming(QP) problem. The proposed model is derived based on a piecewise equation correspond to optimality condition of convex (QP) problem and has a lower structure complexity respect to the other existing neural network model for solving such problems. In theoretical aspect, stability and global converge...

A Method for Solving Convex Quadratic Programming Problems Based on Differential-algebraic equations

In this paper, a new model based on differential-algebraic equations(DAEs) for solving convex quadratic programming(CQP) problems is proposed. It is proved that the new approach is guaranteed to generate optimal solutions for this class of optimization problems. This paper also shows that the conventional interior point methods for solving (CQP) problems can be viewed as a special case of the n...

Second-Order Cone Relaxations for Binary Quadratic Polynomial Programs

Several types of relaxations for binary quadratic polynomial programs can be obtained using linear, secondorder cone, or semidefinite techniques. In this paper, we propose a general framework to construct conic relaxations for binary quadratic polynomial programs based on polynomial programming. Using our framework, we re-derive previous relaxation schemes and provide new ones. In particular, w...

Tighter Lifting-Free Convex Relaxations for Quadratic Matching Problems

In this work we study convex relaxations of quadratic optimisation problems over permutation matrices. While existing semidefinite programming approaches can achieve remarkably tight relaxations, they have the strong disadvantage that they lift the original n×n-dimensional variable to an n2×n2-dimensional variable, which limits their practical applicability. In contrast, here we present a lifti...

Exact SDP relaxations for classes of nonlinear semidefinite programming problems

An exact semidefinite linear programming (SDP) relaxation of a nonlinear semidefinite programming problem is a highly desirable feature because a semidefinite linear programming problem can efficiently be solved. This paper addresses the basic issue of which nonlinear semidefinite programming problems possess exact SDP relaxations under a constraint qualification. We do this by establishing exa...
